Donald “Gary” Hammonds, age 71, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, October 9, 2020, after he fought a private battle with cancer. Gary’s passions were music, nature, and animals.
He was an Inductee to the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2013, and had his own band named Little Thunder for 20 years. Gary shared the stage with well-known acts including Lee Roy Parnell, Lonestar, the Bellamy Brothers, Swingin’ Medallions, John Berry, David Allan Coe, T. Graham Brown, and many others.
Gary served in the Georgia Department of Defense Force as part of the National Guard. He was also a Park Ranger at Yellowstone National Park in Mammoth Hot Springs, WY. What he did best, however, was always being a great dad to his only child, Ashley Saye.
