Gerre Byrd, A.K.A. Gerre Gale Engard of Conyers, Georgia was born on March 28, 1940 and died on September 21, 2026.

Gerre was born & raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In her sophomore year of high school, her father transferred to Fort Dodge, Iowa where Gerre graduated from high school. She then attended Lindenwood College for Women in St. Charles, Missouri and Tulsa University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Early years of employment included office manager for Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company in their Tulsa office, returning to work for the same company twice, including a Stone Mtn., GA office. After becoming a mother (all she ever wanted to be), she stayed at home. Many years later, she entered the banking world and became a Vice President of First Union. Years later, she was employed by Rockdale Emergency Relief, Rockdale County's Juvenile Court as Mentoring Coordinator, and substituted for the Rockdale County School System.

As many of you know, Gerre was a genealogist, professionally & personally. She had a great appreciation for her friends in the LDS Church, for their love and for their contributions to Genealogy. Other very good friends included the Faith Class at the First Baptist Church. Gerre said, “They were good, down to earth ladies who were wise beyond their years.”

And then there were those whom she had cherished for 40 to 71 years. Some have gone before, however, she is leaving behind some very loving and caring friends. Gerre was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Byrd; her parents, Marion and Virginia Engard; her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Byrd (Annie); and her sisters, Patti Davis and Rhonda Engard.

She leaves behind her sons, Tommy Byrd (Jill) and Scott Byrd (Kim); her grandchildren, Bradley Byrd (Vicki), Shelby Newcomer (Ryan), Katie Mixon (Matt), Dylan Byrd, and Justin Byrd; and three great-grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
