George Vernon DeVane, 80, went home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2026.

George was a loving husband, father, papa, and brother. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1968–1970 and was a man who loved his country, his family, and most of all, his Lord.

George loved his church, Crossroads Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school and Bible studies. He loved to read and study the Bible and was always happy to share what he knew with anybody who would listen, even if they didn’t want to!

If you knew George, you know he was never short on something to say! George never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anybody, anywhere, and a quick trip to Walmart was liable to turn into a full afternoon of visiting. He loved to crack jokes, make people laugh, and just sit and talk. He was truly one of a kind.

You could usually find George in his suspenders, with a story to tell and a song ready to sing. He loved music and enjoyed singing with his church, and even once sang in a barbershop quartet. But his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he loved and cared for with his whole heart.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lois DeVane; and his brother, Darrell DeVane.

He leaves behind his beloved bride of 54 years, Jewell DeVane; daughter, Aimee Maner (Marvin); grandchildren, Jessica M. Diamond, David Diamond (Jessica D.), Sarah Maner, Dillon Diamond, and William Ebert; sisters, Imogene Thomas (Steve), Kathie Holmes (Kenny), and Mary DeVane; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

George lived his life with a big heart, a strong faith, a good sense of humor, and plenty to say. He loved the Lord, loved his family, and never let an opportunity to visit with somebody pass him by.

A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. George DeVane will be held Sunday, September 20, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Crossroads Baptist Church. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Crossroads Baptist Church an hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. (227 Hwy 229, Social Circle).
