Rev. Nelson Albert DeBrosse

August 18, 2023

Rev. Nelson Albert DeBrosse, of Covington, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023, at the age of 74, one week before his 75th birthday, Friday, August 25, 2023.

The service to worship God and celebrate Nelson's life will be held at St. Luke's Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, GA on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 10:30. Rev, Michael Sanchez, a minister at St Luke's, and Dr. David Prescott, currently serving in Ocala, Florida, will officiate.

Rev. DeBrosse was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Milton DeBrosse, his sister, Gladys Helen DeBrosse, and other family members who went before him.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Elizabeth Demarest DeBrosse; daughter, Rebecca Strickland and her husband, David Strickland; sons: David Curylo and his wife Kristin Curylo, Robert Curylo and his wife Melanie Curylo; grandchildren: Grace Strickland, Julia Strickland, Charlie Curylo, Maggie Curylo, Henry Curylo, Wally Curylo, Leona Curylo, his brother, Dale DeBrosse and his wife Debbie DeBrosse, and many others including aunts, cousins, and friends who were family to him.

Nelson lived his life in service to our Lord Jesus Christ. He loved Jesus, the Holy Words of God, and his family. Although he spent many of his younger years rising through the ranks at NCR following his graduation from Dayton University in Ohio, Nelson later attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, and graduated with a Master of Theology. Thereafter, he served our Lord as an ordained Presbyterian minister. It was Nelson's passion to share his love of our Savior and the Word of God with others including his family, his congregations, and his friends.

Nelson was also an accomplished musician. His primary instrument was his alto saxophone, but he loved to play his collection of instruments in many different settings including his churches, different social settings, schools, nursing homes, with his grandchildren, and many others. Over his life, he either organized or joined numerous performing groups: his latest one, East Atlanta Horns. He was also a member of the Newton County Community Band where he met many friends and enjoyed participating in the music they provided for our community.

Nelson loved his family: children, aunts, uncles, cousins...all of them. He loved being Papa to our grandchildren. Despite his public performances and service as a minister, Nelson was a private person. However, he loved interacting with family and friends face-to-face in small groups. We will all continue to love Nelson, and he will remain in our hearts, but we are blessed to know with assurance that he is now actively involved with his Heavenly activities. I am certain those include worshipping the Trinity face to face, enjoying his reunion with those who went before him, and participating in all the Heavenly music.

This obituary was prepared with love and affection by Nelson's family.
