Peggy Clarke Dobbs Obituary

Peggy Clarke Dobbs, of Covington, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 2, 2020, at the age of 86, after a brief illness. Mrs. Dobbs grew up on a farm in Almon and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She attended the University of West Georgia on a 4-H scholarship and later graduated from Georgia State University. She married the love of her life, C.B. Dobbs, in 1953, and they were happily married for 65 years. As part of a nearly 30-year career as a teacher, Mrs. Dobbs taught many children of Newton County at Livingston Elementary School.

After retirement, Mrs. Dobbs enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening, trips to the beach and spending time with her family – especially her grandchildren. She was always planning her next adventure. Mrs. Dobbs managed to visit every continent – except Antarctica. She saw many corners of the world, including riding a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (at age 72). However, her favorite place was Alaska. On her last visit there, she rode a dogsled and saw the Northern Lights. Mrs. Dobbs was preceded in death by her husband, C.B. Dobbs; parents, Harvey and Nellie Clarke; and brothers, Chester Clarke, Jack Clarke.

Left to remember Mrs. Dobbs with love and affection is her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Bob Hurt; son, Jerry Dobbs & fiancée, Kristy King; grandchildren and their spouses, Courtney and Brett Israel, Wesley and Elizabeth Hurt, Bradley Hurt, Nicholas Dobbs and fiancée, Kayla, Cody Dobbs and fiancée, Shyela, Hayley and Matt Adams; and great-grandchildren, Branson, Marlowe, Bobbie, Brody.

A Private Graveside Service for Mrs. Dobbs will be held Tuesday, August 4, 2020, 11:00 A.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Mike Wadley officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church, 10 Almon Church Road, Covington, GA 30014; Samaritan’s Purse, www.samaritanspurse.org, or a charity of your choice.
