Mildred Frances Payne

Mildred Frances Payne, of Covington, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the age of 92. Mrs. Payne loved her church, Christ Cornerstone, where she attended services for many years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, trying new recipes, reading, and traveling to the mountains. But most of all, Mrs. Payne loved the time spent with her grandchildren and family. She was a very sweet and kind woman and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Billy Payne; grandson, Michael Garner; parents, Robert and Obera Herring; sisters, Margaret Cannon, Erma Davis; and brother, Bobby Herring.

Survivors include her daughter, LaJuana Garner (Douglas); son, Tim Payne (Jeanne); four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Herring (Sue); as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Payne will be held Sunday, March 17, 2024, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Darrell Payne officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday, two hours prior to her service, from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.
