Mildred Lord Obituary

Mildred Barnes Lord, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020, at the age of 91. A lifelong resident of Newton County, Mrs. Lord’s work life highlighted her strengths of both loyalty and commitment. From 1946, until he saw his final patient, she was the sole employee for Dr. James Mitchell. After his retirement, she went to work in the Newton County Clerk’s Office until 1982. Mrs. Lord brought her remarkable work career to a close when she retired from Newton County Hospital in 1993. An important facet of her Christian faith was her lifelong stewardship at Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church. Mrs. Lord was a member of Porterdale Woman’s Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She had a bubbly personality, a magnetic smile, and a laugh that could fill even the emptiest of spaces; to be in her presence meant there was never a dull moment. Mrs. Lord was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Lord; grandson, David Roberds; and parents, Levi and Ruby (Thompson) Barnes.

Left to cherish Mrs. Lord’s memory are many, especially her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Kathy Lord of Covington; grandchildren, Blake and Mollie Lord of Canton, Megan and Jon Freeman of Monroe, Candice Christy and fiancé, Brad Davis, of Stone Mountain; great-grandchildren, Emery Lord, Blakely Lord, Finley Lord, Adalyn Freeman, Reagan Freeman; as well as several nieces and nephews.
