Larry Wade Kirkman

Larry Wade Kirkman, of Covington, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021, at the age of 78. Mr. Kirkman was born in Mount Airy, NC to the late Coy and Ruth Kirkman. He graduated from Cross Keys High School in 1961. Upon graduation from a Cross Keys, he attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC on a football scholarship until suffering a knee injury. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1962. Having ran track and played football in his younger years, he led an active lifestyle as a devoted sports fan, and played in various tennis leagues. Mr. Kirkman was a member of Common Ground Church. He loved to go out with friends on the boat and go out to eat. He cherished his family dearly. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Kirkman.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Brenda Kirkman; children, JoAnn Compton (Ronnie), Ginger Woods, Chris Bunn, Greg Bunn (Jamie), Kelley Johnston-Towe, Jennifer Kirkman; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and some extended family in North Carolina.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Kirkman will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Ron Compton officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Larry to the National MS Society, PO Box #91891, Washington, D.C. 20090, or to Common Ground Ministries, 7165 Turner Lake Circle SW, Covington, GA 30014. The Funeral Service will be live streamed through the Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home website.

Governor Brian Kemp’s latest executive order has eliminated restrictions on large gatherings; however, CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.
