Joyce Stewart Obituary

Joyce Stewart, of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the age of 83. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Besides her devoted love for family, Joyce cherished her friends with a full heart. She was passionate about cooking and gardening. She was a member of the Native Plant Society and enjoyed Japanese gardens, koi ponds, and rescuing plants. Joyce loved the beach and two of her favorite places were Tybee and Harbor Islands. Mrs. Stewart was part owner of Bouquet by Betty, in Covington, and retired from the Division of Family and Children Services. Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Sarah (Knight) Pearson; brothers, Ulysses Pearson and Ray Pearson; former husbands, Richard James Kearns of 25 years and Jim Loftis of 2 years.

Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Jimmy Stewart; daughters, Cynthia Joan Kearns, Judith Anne Hartness; son, Stephen Richard Kearns; grandchildren, Matt Singleton (Mary Catherine), Sara Rudolph (Jonathan), Jonathan Hartness (Michelle), Ryan Hartness, Gidgett Pickett Flowers (David), Angela Harwell (David); great-grandchildren, William Jeffrey Rudolph, Adam Teal, Amber Harwell, Kaylee Williamson, Harlyee Simmons Pickett; great-great grandchildren, Bella, Addy, and Trinity Teal; sister, Peggy Evans (Tommy); brothers, John “Bud” Pearson (Juanita), Richard Person (Linda); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Mrs. Stewart will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021, 4:00 P.M., at Corinth Christian Church, where she was a member in Loganville, Ga. Address: 1635 Highway 81 SW, 30052. Visitation is from 3:00 – 4:00 pm followed by the service from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org/.

Governor Brian Kemp’s latest executive order has eliminated restrictions on large gatherings; however, CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public.  Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.
