Jimmy C. Bonner

Jimmy C. Bonner, of Covington, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at the age of 89. Mr. Bonner proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was the last surviving member of the USS Oriskany and was part of Operation Castle, serving from 1952 until 1960. Mr. Bonner was a dedicated member of the Voice of Pentecost Church of Covington. He was also a proud member of the Porterdale River Rats where he was considered one of the originals. Mr. Bonner loved going to the mountains, especially Moccasin Creek State Park. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and being a homebody. Mr. Bonner was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Aiden McNutt; and parents, Frank and Estelle Bonner.

Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Shirley Allen Bonner; daughter, Denise Allen (David); son, Dondi Bonner (Sharon); grandchildren, Carrie McNutt (Shawn Wadsworth), Beth Camacho (Adrian), Rebecca Thomason (Lamar), Heath Allen (Brittany), Lacy Abadie (Ryan); great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Lockard, Baylor Thomason, Noah Abadie, and coming soon, Laurel Abadie; sisters, Dean Jones, Donna Watts Smith, Katrina Fain (Butch); as well as other loving family members.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Bonner will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Gavin Moon officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family, at the funeral home, Saturday, November 26, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M.
