Jimmy (Blue) Harwell Obituary

Jimmy (Blue) Eugene Harwell, of Oxford, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the age of
94. Mr. Harwell was a life-long resident of Newton County. He served in the US Army during the
Korean War. Following the Army, he worked for General Motors-Lakewood Division for 35 years
as a Quality Control Inspector.
Mr. Harwell was mechanically minded and able to figure out how most things worked and to
repair them when they didn’t. He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture with his wife before her
death.
Working or relaxing outdoors was his happy place. Once retired, he freely volunteered to
maintain elderly friend’s and neighbor’s yards; along with doing any minor repairs that might be
needed.
He enjoyed all kinds of animals and had various kinds throughout his lifetime. Mr. Harwell spent
many hours watching and feeding birds and working in his garden.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Louise Stokes Harwell; mother, Mattie
Womack; father, J.E. Harwell; son, mother-in-law, Mary Stokes Trusty; Terry E. Harwell; son-in-
law, Paul K. Ryan; daughter-in-law, Susan S. Harwell.
Survivors include his daughter, Genia Harwell-Ryan of Grayson; son, Tommy “TW” Harwell, of
Milledgeville.
A graveside service for Mr. Harwell will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM, at
Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington.
