Gary Leonard Smith

Gary Leonard Smith, also known as Mr. Gary, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2023, at the age of 67. Mr. Smith lived a full life and retired from the International Union Operating Engineers Local 926. Mr. Smith established Newton Mobile Tire located on Highway 36 in Newton County, which he ran until his health declined. He was a hard worker; most would say Mr. Gary was hilarious and very kind. He loved nothing more than to make people laugh and see people smile. He enjoyed talking to all of his friends and family on social media. Mr. Smith will be missed dearly and will be remembered as a great friend and most of all, as a loving father. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Jean Smith; sister, Cathy Smith Cochran; and brother, Tommy Smith.

Survivors include his children, Wesley Smith (Brandie), Amanda Smith Campbell; aunts, Wanda Smith New (Moose), Patty Smart; brother, Robert Smith (Becky Anne); as well as several step-children, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Friends are invited to visit with the family for a Memorial Visitation at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, on Friday, April 28, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
