Charles William Glass, Jr. Obituary

Charles William Glass, Jr., of Oxford, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at the age of 91. Mr. Glass proudly served his country in the military as a Navy Aviator assigned at USS Princeton CVS-37 from 1953 – 1955. After graduating from Brown High School in 1950, and Truett McConnell, Jr. College in 1952, he then attended Mercer University, where he obtained his Seminary Degree and was an ordained minister. Mr. Glass loved the Lord very much and was a former member of Stone Mountain First Baptist Church and a current member of First Baptist Church of Conyers. He and his wife, Shirley, resided in Stone Mountain from 1967 – 1986 before moving to Oxford. His wife was the love of his life, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Mr. Glass never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face and a story to share. He had a passion for steam trains and was a lifetime member of the North Georgia Live Steamers. In addition, he was in the final stages of completing a steam train he built from the ground up. Mr. Glass was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Ann Glass; son-in-law, Richard A. “Ricky” Brown; parents, Charles Williams, Sr., and Christina Glass; and brothers, Franklin “Buddy’ Glass, Jack Glass.

Survivors include his daughter, Renee Brown; son, Mark Glass (Susan); grandchildren, Brandy Sherman (Zeb), Jeremy Freeman (Sami), Elizabeth Glass, Mark Glass, Jr. (Abby), David Glass, Hannah Glass; sister, Charlene Rhea (Claude); as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Glass will be held Monday, August 8, 2022, 11:30 A.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Dave Nelson officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family prior to his service, from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
