Betty Jo Owensby

Betty Jo Owensby, of Covington, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at the age of 88. Mrs. Owensby was a devout Christian and member of The Baptist Tabernacle. She enjoyed being outside in her garden, doing yardwork, and fishing. Additionally, she liked singing, sewing, cooking, housekeeping, and collecting antiques, specifically crystal and china. Mrs. Owensby loved to travel, meeting and making new friends along the way. She adored her children and grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Mrs. Owensby was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, L. J. Owensby; daughter, Frances Joan Dean; grandsons, Michael Bowden, Joshua Wild; parents, Joseph and Frances Griffin; sister, Mary Annette Durden; brothers, Fred Baker, Donald Baker; beloved Pomeranian, Kissy.

Mrs. Owensby is survived by her daughters, Brenda Bowden, Helen Wild, Debra Owensby; Son, William Owensby (Robin); grandchildren, Donnie Bowden, Ron Owens, Terri Batchelor, Alicia Owensby, Jamie Cleaton, Bill Owensby, Leslie Day, Matthew Owensby, J.J. Dean, Charles Strawser, Sarah Faulkner, Courtney Wild, Makayla Owensby; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Mrs. Owensby will be held, Thursday, July 29, 2021, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Covington First United Methodist Church Food Pantry, 1113 Conyers Street SW, Covington, Georgia 30014.

Governor Brian Kemp’s latest executive order has eliminated restrictions on large gatherings; however, CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public.  Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home requests that you observe these recommendations while in our funeral home attending visitations and/or services.
