Wayne Elliott "PeeWee" Hailey

Wayne Elliott “PeeWee” Hailey, of Covington, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at the age of 70. Mr. Hailey, affectionately known as Peewee, was born in Porterdale, Georgia. He attended Porterdale Elementary School and Porterdale Junior High School and was a proud 1974 graduate of Newton County High School, where he lettered in baseball.

Mr. Hailey worked at Hodges Grocery and later dedicated many years of service to Covington Moulding. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he had a deep love for baseball and softball and was an outstanding slow-pitch softball player. Peewee played on Newton County’s first slow-pitch team, the Almon Gullystompers, and later with the highly successful Covington Stars, along with many other local teams.

He also enjoyed golf and was a devoted Georgia Bulldog football fan, attending many games throughout the years. Above all, Peewee loved socializing, laughing, and spending time with his family and friends. His joyful spirit and lively presence ensured there was never a dull moment when he was around.

PeeWee was loved and respected by many and will be truly missed. He Loved his Family dearly and especially had a special place in his Heart for his Niece Sophie Hailey and Nephew T.J. Hailey.

Brother Tommy Hailey, Sister in Law Crystal Hailey, Beloved Niece Sophie Hailey, Step-Sister and Nephew Evelyn and John Marshall, Step-Mother Margie Hailey, Step Sister Debbie (Jack) Studdard, Step- Brothers Charles (Kay) Shumate, Clifford Shumate, Troy Shumate. Niece Christy Young and Nephew Ron (Amy) Holder; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers the family ask that contributions be made to the T.J. A Funeral Service for Mr. Hailey will be held Friday, January 9, 2026, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Freinds are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home two hours piror to his service from 1:00 - 3:00 P.M.
