Surina Cay Cannon, age 66, passed away on January 30, 2026, in Georgia. She was born on April 25, 1959, in Savannah, GA to William Jesse Cannon and Frances Louise Cannon (Hembree).
She is survived by her son, William Jordan Cannon, and her precious granddaughters, Estrella and Kaia, who brought her light, pride and joy. She is also survived by her siblings: William “Buck” Cannon and his wife Brenda Joan Cannon; Sunday Cannon Wiley and her late husband Gary Wiley; Judy Kathryn Cannon widow of Elbert Kenneth Cannon, Susan Cannon Wright and her husband Timothy “Tiny” Wright; and Alan Dale Cannon, who was previously married to the late Teri Cannon, a dear friend to Surina, and is now married to Evelyn Cannon.
Surina was a loving aunt to Jodie, Melissa, Ashley, and nephews Rich, Kyle, Derek, Matt and Jesse. She was loved by many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Jesse Cannon and Frances Louise Cannon, her stepfather Harold Hembree, and her brothers Robert Lee Cannon and Elbert Kenneth Cannon.
Surina loved her precious cat BABE, she brought her joy and they had a special bond that was irreplaceable. Surina was a favorite waitress at the legendary Harold’s Barbeque in Atlanta, Georgia, where everyone—from politicians and public servants to everyday regulars—felt welcome. She had a natural way of connecting with people and made many lifelong friends through her work.
She loved helping others but also cherished her independence and quiet time. Deeply connected to nature, Surina found her joy near the water—whether at the beach, the lake, a creek, or a quiet stream. Fishing was her passion, and she proudly out-fished just about anyone who tried to compete. Always active and full of energy, Surina was up for any adventure. She could outlast anyone, lived life on her own terms, and was known to be a little stubborn at times—something she would have laughed about herself.
Surina will be remembered for her strength, her love of family, and her unmistakable spirit. She leaves behind countless memories and a legacy of love that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
