George Davenport, of Covington, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 75. Mr. Davenport was a loving husband, devoted father, and proud grandfather. He found great joy in the outdoors, spending his time hunting, fishing, and relaxing at the lake, often surrounded by friends and family.
A gifted athlete in his youth, Mr. Davenport played basketball, football, and baseball in high school, continuing his passion for football at Tennessee Tech in college. He later served his country with honor in the United States Army, completing two years of service in Vietnam.
Mr. Davenport will be remembered for his love of family, his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy Davenport; and parents, George and Betty Davenport.
Survivors include his sons, Matt Davenport (Chasity), John Mark Davenport (Jesi); grandchildren, Lincoln, Evan, Hailey; as well as his brother, Brett Davenport.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Davenport will be held Wednesday, April 15, 2026, 4:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with inurnment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, two hours prior to his service, from 2:00 - 4:00 P.M.
