Shirley Ann Thompson, of Covington, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the age of 85. Mrs. Shirley Thompson graduated from Irwin County High School in Ocilla, Georgia, on May 26, 1959, where she ranked among the top ten students in her class. Following graduation, she began her career as a file clerk at the county courthouse and later served as a secretary for several insurance companies. In 1999, Shirley proudly retired debt-free at the age of 58 from Fred S. James Insurance Company, where she worked as an executive secretary.
A woman of deep faith, Shirley accepted Christ and was saved and baptized at the age of 13. She faithfully served at Canaan Baptist Church for more than 50 years, including over 40 years as a Sunday School teacher and choir member.
Among her greatest joys were her family. Her proudest family moments were holding her granddaughter and later her great-grandchildren at their births. Shirley will be remembered for her dedication to her faith, her strong work ethic, and her love for her family and church community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Roy and Inez Cole; brothers, William Cole (Bud), Jerry Cole, Wilson Cole; and sisters, Margaret Shannon, Bobby Dobbs, Linda Walden.
Survivors include her daughter, Angie Kimbrell (Randy); granddaughter, Marissa Belcher (Chance); great-grandchildren, Joslyn and Dean Belcher; sister, Mary Scott; brothers, Kenneth Cole and Charles Cole (Beverly).
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Thompson will be held Wednesday, June 3, 2026, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Tuesday, June 2, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M.
