Shirley Jean
Crawford
Feb 2, 1945 — Jul 8, 2026
Shirley Jean Crawford, of Porterdale, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the age of 81. Shirley will be remembered as a loving and devoted mama, grandmama, sister, and cherished friend whose kindness touched everyone she met. She had a genuine, selfless spirit and never met a stranger—if she met you once, you were considered family. She found joy in reading, birdwatching, coloring on her iPad, playing Candy Crush, baking, and was especially known for her famous pimento cheese. She loved her snacks and was a Cheetos connoisseur. She loved traveling, particularly her annual trips to New York and adventures abroad with her family.
Above all, Shirley loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She treasured her church and church family and faithfully loved the Lord, and she enjoyed singing in the choir. Though quiet in nature, her daily life was a testimony of her faith as she led by example with grace, compassion, and acceptance of everyone she encountered. Her legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering faith will be treasured by all who had the blessing of knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Levie and Maxie Maddox; siblings, Lynwood Maddox, Sr., JC Maddox, David Maddox (Diane), JoAnn Knight (Gene), Faye Aiken (Don), Betty Lou Shaw (Don), Wayne Maddox, Sharon Maddox, Wallace Lindsey, Vivian Maddox.
Survivors include her son, Billy Crawford (Lila); daughters, Holly Hicks (Frankie), Amanda Baugh (Scott); grandchildren, Skyler Crawford (Ashley), Leigh Nelson (Josh), Tiffany Willard (Will); great-grandchildren, Klin Nelson, Charlotte Nelson, Noah Crawford, Levi Crawford, Dylan Hutcheson, Rylee Hutcheson, Chloe Hutcheson, Aubree Tillman, Queso Baugh; and her sisters, Gail Lindsey, Glenda Austin, Vicki Maddox, Bonnie Maddox, and Dot Maddox; numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Ms. Crawford will be held Friday, July 10, 2026, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family two hours prior to her service, from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Julia A. Porter Church for sanctuary renovations.
