Obituary

Thomas “Tommy” Forrester, age 91, of Walton County, Georgia, passed away on May 5, 2026, in the county where he was born on December 21, 1934.

Tommy was a loving, kind, and friendly man whose life was marked by faith, family, music, and hard work. He was born and raised in Walton County, Georgia, and he carried the values of his Christian home throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Ruby Forrester; his wife of 68 years, Hazel Brown Forrester; and his brothers, Emmett Franklin Forrester, Robert Odell Forrester, Jessie Isaac Forrester, and Clarence Seldon Forrester.

Tommy graduated from Loganville High School in 1954, where he was known as the most friendly in his class. After school, he built a long and faithful career with MARTA, where he retired after 30 years of service. He was respected for his steady work ethic and the dependable way he carried himself in all that he did. He also enjoyed working on automobiles and took great pride in getting them to run, a skill that reflected both his patience and his practical nature.

Faith was the foundation of Tommy’s life. He was proud to have grown up in a Christian home that centered around church and music, and if there was a revival nearby, he wanted to be there. Southern gospel music was one of his greatest joys, and he loved singing gospel songs wherever he had the opportunity. He grew up and was saved at Sharon Baptist Church, where he later taught Sunday school and served as chorister for 17 years. In later years, he became a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church, where he continued his walk of faith among friends and fellow believers.

Tommy shared his gift of music with many through his involvement in the Homeland Boys Quartet, which he joined in 1978. As a lead and tenor singer, he traveled and touched countless hearts with his voice and his spirit. He was also a member of Midnight Praise for several years and enjoyed entertaining with the Old Timers Group. His love for gospel music was more than a hobby, as it was a ministry and a blessing to all who heard him sing.

He was also an active member of the Loganville Lions Club for 20 years, where he gave his time and energy in service to others. Tommy’s life was a reflection of quiet dedication, genuine kindness, and a warm smile that made others feel welcome. He was the kind of man who left a lasting impression simply by being himself.

Tommy is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly Jean Forrester Smith and Stanley, and Angela Darlene Day Nunley and Jerry; his grandchildren, Matthew Day and Deborah, and Brandon Day and Jamie; his great-grandchildren, Weston Day, Keaton Day, and Jayden Bloodworth; and several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will cherish his memory and the example he set.

Tommy Forrester will be remembered for his devotion to God, his love for his family, his beautiful gospel singing, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. His life was a testimony of faith, service, and love, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
