Rickey Lee Lunsford, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the age of 66. Mr. Lunsford was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, coach, and friend whose larger-than-life personality touched everyone he met. Known throughout the community for his kindness, humor, and outgoing spirit, he truly never met a stranger. A lifelong sports fan, he proudly cheered for the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs, while spending countless hours on the golf course and at the ballfield.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Lunsford coached baseball and also served as a dedicated Little League umpire, helping shape the lives of many young athletes in the community. Affectionately known as “Papa Wrink,” he treasured time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him endless joy.
Mr. Lunsford loved traveling, singing along to country music, and sharing laughter with those around him. His big sense of humor, community-driven heart, and genuine love for people will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Brice Carlton Lunsford and Margaret Ann Lunsford.
Survivors include his daughter, Amber Bennett (Blake); son, Brian Lee Lunsford; grandchildren, Kyan Bennett, Gabbi Lunsford, Bevin Bennett, Jasper Bennett; sister, Natalie Griffin (Shelton); brother, Dennis Lunsford; niece, Lyn Marie Haynie; and nephews, Nick Griffin and Travis Griffin.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Lunsford will be held Sunday, May 24, 2026, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to his service from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M.
