Reverend Richard L. Gravitt, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the age of 70. Mr. Gravitt obtained his Master of Divinity from Tennessee Temple University. A man who loved the Lord he was the Senior Pastor of Lovejoy United Methodist Church, in Covington, for 12 years and was currently a member of New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, in Mansfield. Mr. Gravitt enjoyed fishing, traveling, and reading. He was a football fan, following stats, drafts, and recorded many games over the years to watch them over again. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Gravitt; mother, Vivian Gravitt; and step-son, Larry Lanford.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Gravitt; daughters, Melodie Hayes (Darrell), Rebecca Coffey (Joel), step-sons, John Hardy, Stephen Hardy; grandchildren, Madison Coffey, Austin Coffey; great-granddaughter, Palmer Coffey; father, Henry E. Gravitt; sister, Beverly Carpenter (Mike); brother, Eddie Gravitt (Pam); numerous nieces and nephews as well as the congregation of Lovejoy United Methodist Church and New Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Gravitt will be held Friday, May 26, 2023, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Randal Reese officiating and interment following in Lovejoy United Methodist Church Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, Thursday, May 25, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. and then again on Friday, from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to New Rocky Creek Baptist Church, 190 Rocky Creek Road, Mansfield, GA 30055.
