Reverend Larry Joseph Koontz of Social Circle passed away on Tuesday, 23 July 2024, at the age of 72. As an ordained minister and registered nurse, Larry’s love for his wife and three kids was only exceeded by his love for Christian missions. For over 40 years, Larry faithfully served on a host of mission fields, but the Kanuri Tribe of Northeast Nigeria will forever be where his heart found its calling. Larry traveled more than 30 times to Nigeria, preaching the Gospel by bringing much-needed medical care to the Kanuri through his ministry, Dorcas Medical Ministries. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, unceasing service to the Lord, and unwavering love for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry and Herdis Marion Koontz, and his brother-in-law, Roger Bruaw. 

His is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sarah Koontz; daughters and sons-in-law, Lauren Koontz and Miky Fababa, and Kristen and Micah Godsey; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rachel Koontz; grandson, Emmett James Godsey; and sisters, Mary Louise Koontz and Phyllis Bruaw.

A Memorial Service for Reverend Larry will be held on Saturday, 27 July 2024, 2:00 p.m. at Central Church, 11157 City Pond Road, in Covington, with Reverend David Smoot officiating.
