Monty Fred Stone

July 23, 1949 — January 22, 2026

Monty Fred Stone, 76, passed away on January 22, 2026. He was born on July 23, 1949, to the late Rennie Fred and Mildred Piper Stone.

Monty was a member of Julia A. Porter Methodist Church and a proud graduate of Newton County High School, Class of 1967. After high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for six years, an experience he carried with pride throughout his life.

Growing up, Monty developed a deep love for the outdoors. He was a natural tinkerer, always fixing, building, or figuring something out, and found joy in working with his hands. Known for his generous spirit, Monty was especially thoughtful toward the elderly and consistently gave his time and resources to multiple charities. He was a Mason and an active member of the local VFW, valuing fellowship, service, and community.

Monty was preceded in death by his parents, Rennie Fred and Mildred Piper Stone; his sister, Katrina Stone Wright; and his brother-in-law, Cohen Archer.

He is survived by his siblings, Susan Stone Archer and Scott Stone (Margaret); and his nieces and nephews, Lisa Prosser Austin (Keith), Jill Prosser Dowler, Mary Susan Archer Denton (Charles), and Joshua Archer (Elizabeth).

Toward the end of his life, Monty was lovingly cared for by his cousins, Phil Stone and Doug Doster, whose dedication and kindness brought him comfort and companionship. Their care was deeply appreciated by Monty and his family. Monty will be remembered for his quiet generosity, steady presence, and willingness to help wherever he was needed. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched through service, friendship, and compassion.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
