Miriam Norton Allen, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on March 6, 2026 two months short of her 94th birthday. She was born on May 6, 1932 in Atlanta, Georgia to her late parents Ruth and Clyde Norton. Her young life was filled with service as a proud member of the Eastern Stars. She was named Miss Hapeville, Georgia and even competed in the Miss Georgia pageant in her teenage years.
Miriam loved music and singing. She sang in the choir and as a member of a quartet during her membership at Calvary Baptist Church. Miriam went to business college and worked for Senator Russell in Washington DC before devoting over 20 years of service to the Georgia power company where she met the love of her life, Ray Allen. Miriam and Ray married in 1980 and enjoyed a life traveling building Miriam‘s dream home, serving as active members of Glenwood Hills Baptist Church, and being wonderfully devoted to their children and grandchildren over their course of 32 years together. Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Allen, and brother Gene Norton. Miriam leaves behind her legacy to her children, Carol Allen, (Jim) of Social Circle, Georgia, David Underwood of Conyers, Georgia, Amy Shealy of Canton, Georgia and Miller Allen, of Madison, Florida. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, with three more on the way. Miriam also had a soft spot for animals and cared for many in her years, most recently, tenderly loving and caring for her precious Paco, who kept her company and warmed her heart. Miriam, Mama, and Grandmommie will always be remembered for her sweet spirit and unwavering love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved her.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Allen will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2026, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington, GA.
