Affectionately known as Mike, Michael Douglas Autry passed peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, surrounded by his family. Born on August 22,1944, in Stone Mountain, Georgia, he was a man whose life has been a tapestry of dedication, service, and Masonic brotherhood
Beloved son of Phil D. Autry and Mary Gazaway Autry, cherished husband of Lynda Autry, and a caring brother to Joy Scaffa (Tony), Lynn Green, and Ray Croy, Mike is also a devoted father to Michael R. Autry, Marcy S. Autry; loving grandfather to Arden S. Autry, and a beloved uncle to his nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Stone Mountain High School and DeKalb Technical College, Mike embarked on a notable career with the State of Georgia’s Building Authority, dedicating more than two decades before retiring as an Assistant Superintendent.
A man of deep faith, Mike is an integral part of Stewart Community Church, led by Pastor Jason Johnson. His spiritual journey is as significant to him as his professional and Masonic pursuits.
Mike’s Masonic journey is marked by distinguished service and leadership. Initiation as an Entered Apprentice on November 7, 1974, Passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft on January 6, 1975 and Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on January 25, 1975, at Stone Mountain Lodge No. 449. He served as Director of Work, Coached Catechism and served as Worshipful Master in 1979. Mike was also a Charter Member of Charity Daylight Lodge No. 754.
Mike Autry’s Masonic journey is highlighted by his dedicated contributions to Golden Fleece Lodge #6, where he is celebrated as a perpetual member.
His path extended significantly into York Rite, where he distinguished himself in several capacities as a Knight Mason, and Past Commander of St Bernard Commandery No. 25 in Covington, Cherokee Rose Priory No. 56 as KYCH since 1999, Luther G Palmer York Rite College No. 123 since 1998, St. Ambrose Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, Royal Order of Scotland, and Georgia Highlands Association.
His journey in Scottish Rite began in 1975 and is equally noteworthy. Mike worked in the sound booth robe rooms and was a cast member in the 14th Degree. In 2009, he received the highest honor in Freemasonry and was coronated in 33° Degree, reflecting his unwavering commitment and service.
Mike joined Yaarab Shrine in 1975; his contributions to the Shrine are numerous, as listed below, demonstrating his commitment to community service and philanthropy.

Mr. Autry’s life is a remarkable blend of dedication to family, faith, and the brotherhood Freemasonry. His legacy is one of leadership, compassion, and a profound commitment to the values he holds dear. He inspired all who knew him and will continue to influence future generations.
In recognition of Mike’s life of service and his commitment to the principles of Freemasonry, donations to Shriners Children’s Hospital would be a fitting tribute.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Autry will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023, 2:00 P.M, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Jason Johnson officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home three hours prior to his service, from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M.
