Lura Madden Whitaker, of Covington, passed away on December 20, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Lura's 80 years were characterized by a fierce love for her family, a spirit of adventure, and a commitment to her community.
Lura is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Nancy Madden.
Lura is survived by her husband, Glenn Whitaker; sons, Lew and Russ Whitaker; daughter Erin (Caleb) Frazier. Lura took immense pride in her role as a grandmother, cherishing her grandchildren: Alex Whitaker, Grace Frazier, Ava Frazier, and Lillian Whitaker, who were the lights of her life; niece, Pam (John) Forrest; and nephew, Dwight (Mary) Whitaker.
Lura shared a remarkable 60-year marriage with her husband, Glenn Whitaker. Together, they created a lifetime of memories. A passionate traveler, Lura embraced her adventurous spirit by exploring the beauty of the United States in her RV, proudly visiting 49 out of the 50 states. Her love for cooking was evident, especially when it came to preparing meals for her family, cultivating cherished traditions and memories around the dinner table. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as reading stories and watching classic films, often sharing these experiences with those she loved.
Lura’s dedication extended beyond her family; she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, reflecting her deep-rooted patriotism and commitment to serving her country. Her faith played a pivotal role in her life as well, being an active member of the Porterdale Baptist Church, where she found fellowship and community.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Whitaker will be held Sunday, December 28, 2025, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral home, one hour prior to her service, from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M.
