Loy James Anderson, Sr., “Speedy” of Covington, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, at the age of 89. Mr. Anderson was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including watching NASCAR, collecting a wide variety of treasures, and especially building an impressive coin collection. He enjoyed listening to country and gospel music and was known for his remarkable knowledge of cars and trees. He also enjoyed playing horse shoes and bowling.

Above all, Mr. Anderson loved the Lord and lived his life with faith, kindness, and dedication to those he loved. He was a very giving person, never let anyone leave on an empty stomach and always made sure everyone else was okay. Mr. Anderson’s wisdom, friendship, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Newtie Anderson; siblings, Herman Anderson, Howard Anderson, Annie Lou Turner, Louise Gee, Geneva Meeks, Gladys Johnson, Bertha Pruitte, Rose Newton, and Ethel Anderson.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Dell Anderson; children, Annette Sergent (Lloyd), Tammy Townson (Monty), James Anderson (Tamara), Carrie Anderson; grandchildren, Joshua Sergent (Christina), Jeremy Sergent (Kelsey), Jacob Sergent, Cassie Butts (Andy), Caleb Lange, Joy Hanson (Paul), Jordan Lange, JanLynne Anderson; great-grandchildren, Preston Sergent, Brooklyn Sergent, Ethan Sergent, Savannah Sergent, Gali Stone (Justin), Ara Butts, Evie Butts, Judah Butts, Isaiah Hanson, Leland Hanson, Ellis Hanson; sister, Lillian Faulkner; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
