Louise Panella Bourne, aka “Cherry,” was born to the late Thomas Clarke and Rebecca Johnson on June 20, 1940, in Cedar Grove, Westmoreland, Jamaica, W.I. Louise peacefully departed this life on August 31, 2025.
She received her education at Kew Park Primary School in Westmoreland. Louise owned and operated several convenience stores in Cedar Grove. Years later, she moved to the United States, where she worked as a live-in caretaker. Shortly after, she used her owner-operator experience to serve as Senior Manager at the Dart Drug Warehouse in Landover, MD, and later owned and operated her own home daycare, caring for family members and other children. All adored her. Later, she entered the hospitality industry, managing a restaurant for the Days Inn Hotel in Capitol Heights, Maryland. As a dedicated worker with impeccable work ethics, she was punctual and never missed a day of work during her 30-year tenure, retiring in 2019.
On July 2, 2025, Louise celebrated 55 years of marriage with her beloved, Robert William Bourne. She was an exceptional cook; her specialties included her red pea soup, curry dishes, rice and peas, ackee and saltfish, among others.
Mrs. Cherry enjoyed a Jamaican Red Stripe beer and eating crabs on the deck with Sandra. She loved going to the Kentland Fire Station in Landover, MD, to play Bingo. Her favorite TV shows were General Hospital, Wheel of Fortune, and Let’s Make A Deal. Her love and kindness will be truly missed.
She enjoyed attending St. Michael's Anglican Church in Kew Park, Westmoreland, Jamaica, whenever she visited home. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
She leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Robert William Bourne; daughters, Lorna Ireland-Mitchell, Sandra Bourne Paul (Anthony Sr.), Patricia Bourne; grandchildren, James Peppins III (Jasmine), Carmell Peppins, Azia Thomas, Romaeshia Paul, Anthony Paul Jr. (Tonjanik), Detron Mack II, Harmony Bourne; great-grandchildren, Neila, Kennedi, Sha’Niyah, Aubrey, Legend, and True; sisters, Lurline Barrett and Olive Pryce (Lloyd); brother, Michael Johnson (Margaret); sisters-in-law, Hermine Wiggan, Esther Harper, Sylvia Henry; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Clarke and Rebecca Johnson; stepfather, Phillip Johnson; grandson, De’Arie Bourne; son-in-law, Wyllie Mitchell Jr.; sisters, Irene Crewe and Doris Clarke; brothers, Clifton Wiggan, Eric Thompson, and Neville Johnson; sisters-in-law, Velma Johnson and Gloria Bourne; brothers-in-law, Reggie Crewe, Harold Bourne, and Barry Barrett.
