Lillian Marie Vandiver Martinez, of Covington, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the age of 81. Lil was born on October 19, 1941, in Fulton County. Lil was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother going by Nanny to the kids. Lil met the love of her life, Gil Martinez June 3 of 1961 and married July 3, 1961. Lil was a lifelong homemaker raising Becky and Eddie. She loved going shopping, hitting the casino in her younger years, and watching the game show channel.
Lil was preceded in death by her loving husband, Gil Martinez; parents, Robert Lee and Mary Grace Vandiver; sister, Ann Corders; brother, Robert Vandiver.
Lil’s survivors include her daughter, Becky Johnson (Tom); son, Eddie Martinez; all of Covington; grandchildren, Cale Cook (Jerusha) of Grayson, Colten Johnson (Brooke Wilson) of Athens; great-grandchildren, Gracie Cook, Connor Cook, Jin Jittacotra, Jade Jittacotra, Aiden Johnson, Corbin Johnson; sisters, Oleda Juhan of Monroe, Carolyn West (Ron) of Conyers; brother, Barry Vandiver (Terri) of Chattanooga, TN; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Martinez will be held Monday, June 26, 2023, 11:00 A.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Larry Cheek and Wayne Rickard officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family, at the funeral home, Sunday, June 25, from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M.
