Larry Charles Downing, of Covington, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at the age of 78. Mr. Downing was a patient, kind, and loving man who never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. A devoted conservative, he was admired as a true role model and hero by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed watching TV and was a passionate fan of NASCAR, the Atlanta Braves, and the Atlanta Falcons. He also dearly loved his dog and cat, Fred and Dolly. Fred was especially close to him and was often described as his shadow, always faithfully by his side. More than anything, Mr. Downing treasured time spent with his family and loved gathering together for family events and celebrations. His generous heart, steady presence, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Everett and Mary Elizabeth Downing; sister, Vicky Cherepkai; brother, Ralph Downing, Jr.; nephew, Michael Cherepkai; in-laws, Harold and Pauline Morrow; sister-in-law, Paula Chapman; and brother-in-law, Harold Tucker Morrow, Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Kaye Downing; children, Jeffrey Downing (Traci), Chris Downing, (Melissa), Steven Edge (Patty), Steve Huenke (Carrie); grandchildren, Zachary Downing (Chelsea), Sloan Edge, Skyler Downing, Paul Edge, Logan Downing (Payton Robinson); great- Grandchildren, Raelyn Downing, Rhett Downing; sisters-in-law, Sharon Downing, Faye Day (Donald); nieces, Terri Fields (David), Heather Chapman; nephews, Lyle Rex Cherepkai, Peter Day, Anthony Walden, Steve Day, Ralphie Downing, III (LeeAnn), David Cherepkai, Keith Day; great-nephews, Matthew Fields, Nicholas Fields, Zachary Fields, And many other extended family and friends.

A Graveside Service for Mr. Downing will be held Sunday, May 17, 2026, 2:00 P.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family two hours prior to his service, from 12:00 - 2:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
