Karen Elaine Greene, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away on September 18, 2025, at the age of 72.
Born on July 22, 1953, to Travis Greene and Nancy Spanfelner at an Air Force base in Arrington, Cambridgeshire England, Karen lived a life full of love, service, and compassion. She dedicated over 30 years to education, shaping countless young lives as a devoted teacher and lifelong mentor. A proud graduate of Albany State University and Troy University, she held both bachelor's and master's degrees, which fueled her passion for learning and teaching.
Karen is survived by her loving husband, Larry Simmons, and her cherished children: Myles (Lacey) Simmons, Anna Simmons, and Lara (Brian) Karnik. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, whom she adored deeply: Taylor (Matt) Simmons, Dillon Fleming, Cameron Fleming, Levi Fleming, Kayla Hampshire, Austin Karnik, Keith Karnik, Ian Karnik, Hannah (Chris) York, and Collin (Lindsey) Fleming.
She is also survived by her beloved siblings: Bonnie (Jim) Presley, Debra Allen, Preston (Kim) Greene, Scott Spanfelner, and Phillip Greene, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Karen shared a lifelong friendship with her best friend, Cindy Hendrick, whose unwavering bond was a constant in her life.
Karen's passions were as vibrant as her spirit. She enjoyed running—particularly half marathons—swimming, and spending time in nature. She had a deep love for plants and flowers, healthy living, and most of all, for her family. She never missed a chance to cheer on her grandchildren or to spend quality time with her siblings, all of whom she held close to her heart.
Karen believed in peace, fairness, and always finding the good in others. She was known for her quick mind—rarely missing an episode of Jeopardy!—and her gentle, encouraging nature that left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
A service to celebrate Mrs. Greene’s life will take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 4:00 P.M. at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, GA 30014.
Karen's light will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
