Joseph Curtiss McPherson, Jr., of Covington, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at the age of 79. Mr. McPherson was a man of deep curiosity and wide-ranging passions. He found joy outdoors, especially hiking trails like Charlie Elliott, Arabia Mountain, and Hard Labor Creek. A lifelong lover of computers, he enjoyed building and fixing them, as well as creating programs long before technology became commonplace.
An avid reader and devoted history buff—particularly fascinated by the Civil War—he also delighted in model airplanes, trains, and classic cars, with a special love for Mustangs. He often spoke of his dream to one day write children’s books, a reflection of his imagination and gentle spirit.
Music was always close to his heart, with favorites ranging from Queen, The Beach Boys, and the Bee Gees to Joan Jett, Blondie, and Savage Garden. Above all else, he loved his grandbabies dearly, cherishing every moment with them.
Mr. McPherson will be remembered for his intellect, creativity, and the quiet enthusiasm he brought to everything he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Curtiss McPherson and Evelyn McPherson.
Survivors include his loving wife, Alice McPherson; daughters, Paula Evans, Alicia Bailey, Misty Hunter, Jennifer McPherson, Brenda, Lisa; grandchildren, Sean Bailey, Karissa Evans, Zachary Futrell, Andrew Futrell, Mason Hunter, Amelia Hunter, sister, Susan McPherson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Memorial Service for Mr. McPherson will be held Friday, February 6, 2026, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with inurnment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/.
