John Russell Grant, Sr., of Covington, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, at the age of 77. Mr. Grant was a retired truck driver of 40 years for FedEx Freight and a well-known singer and bartender, even traveling to Vegas to showcase his skills. He enjoyed gambling, going to casinos, listening to Newstalk Radio, and enjoyed eating sweets - especially strawberry shortcake. Mr. Grant also liked sitting outside, fishing, and watching his two favorite shows, General Hospital and Jeopardy. He was a simple man, loved everyone that he came in contact with, and loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Grant was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hannah Wyatt; parents, Fate John Grant and Gaynell Grant Holtsclaw; brothers and sisters, Kathleen Gurganus, Lilly V. (Bonnie) Feltman, Lucille Ramirez, Hazel Ramsey, Martha Helms, Mae Frank (Peggy) Davenport, Donald W. Grant Robert Grant; as well as 4 half-sisters.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Patsy Elaine Grant; children, John R. Grant, Jr. (Holly), Tracy Grant (Jennifer), grandchildren, Ashtin Withrow (Phillip), Makenzie Grant, Avery Grant, Logan Wyatt, Hailey Wyatt, Emma Wyatt, William Grant, Olivia Grant; great-grandchildren, Jacob Withrow, Adelynn Withrow, Judson Withrow, Jaxson Withrow; sister, Sarah Webb; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Mr. Grant will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Gaithers Church, 1375 Newton Factory Bridge Road, in Covington, from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation at https://www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org/ .
