John Carson Cowan known to family and friends as Johnny passed away on December 4, 2025 at the age of 81. Born on March 31, 1944, he was the son of Edward and Zelma Cowan.
Johnny served in the Army Reserves. He enjoyed raccoon hunting from a young age when his grandfather, Carson Cowan, taught him the sport. Johnny raised Red Bone coon hounds, had several national winning dogs, and was a lifetime member of the National Red Bone Coon Hound Association. Johnny was an avid collector and restorer of muscle cars, loved going to car shows, cruise-ins and swap meets. He retired from Snapping Shoals EMC after working 34 years.
Johnny is survived by Frances Kimble; sisters Eddye Hunt (David) and Catherine Hodges: nieces Elizabeth Galloway (Brent) and Lee Anne Pursley (Bo): nephews Kerry Courchaine (LeeLynn) and Kevin Courchaine (Latisha): great-nieces Brogan Batson (Quint), Cheyenne Whaley (Dakota), Summerlin Thao (Ash), Bracey Dallas (Caleb), Langley Courchaine: great-nephews Wyatt Galloway, Keegan Pursley (Kassidy), Carson Courchaine and his good friend Jeff Morgan.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Cowan will be held Sunday, December 7, 2025, 2:30 P.M., at Hays Family Cemetery, in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with the family Sunday, December 7, from 11:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.
