John Hugh Baggett, Jr., age 75, passed away on March 5, 2026.
John was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord and spent much of his life serving through music and ministry. During the 1960s and 1970s, he was a member of Lucerne Baptist Church, where he faithfully played the piano for church services for 13 years. He also taught Sunday School and Bible Study to young teens. John accompanied the Eternal Assurance Company, a Christian singing group that traveled to churches and prisons sharing the Gospel.
John had a deep love for Jesus and was passionate about sharing his faith with others. He prayed earnestly for his country and for his grandchildren to grow up enjoying the same freedoms he experienced.
He was preceded in death by his adoptive parents, Margaret and Clarence Pratt; his biological parents, John H. Baggett, Sr. and Ruth Baggett; and his brother, John Pratt.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Judith O. Baggett. He is also survived by his children: Timothy L. Baggett and his wife, Niria, of Orlando, Florida, and their daughters, Julia and Emily; Shannon Absher of Orlando, Florida, and her sons, Jake and Will; and John H. Baggett III and his daughter, Emma.
Additional survivors include his brother, Dennis Pratt; his sister-in-law, Jennie Pratt; his first cousin, Jeri White; and several nieces and nephews.
John enjoyed music and politics and loved watching his favorite television shows, including Jeopardy!, Hogan’s Heroes, and The Andy Griffith Show.
A Celebration of Life to honor Mr. Baggett will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00 P.M. at Lucerne Baptist Church, 4805 Stone Mountain Hwy, Lilburn GA 30047.
