Jimmy Harris

Covington

Jimmy Harris of Covington, passed away June 5, 2025, at the age of 86. Jimmy was an active member of First Baptist Church in Social Circle, and former member of Calvary Baptist Church, in Covington. He was an ordained deacon and served on many of the church committees. His passion was missions and disaster relief, serving and leading with the Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief Feeding Unit 11F.

As a young college student he attended Southern Polytech and worked for AT&T. He began his own lawn care business which quickly grew into a full-time job, eventually leading to the formation of Jimmy Harris Trucking. His company was recognized as one of the largest and leading dump truck companies in Georgia. Jimmy helped to start and served a term as president of the Georgia Dump Truck Association. He “retired” from the Trucking Company on more than one occasion and his love for trucking never ceased.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Freeman Harris; parents, Walter H and Esther C Harris; brother Larry Harris, twin sister Martha Harris. Survivors include his children, Teri Anglin (Rick), Jackie Hardy (Mike), Michael Harris (Leigh Ann); grandchildren Jay Joiner (Lisa), Kimberly Glover (Chad), Charlie Joiner (Allison), Michael Hardy, Kara Driskell (Michael), Graham Harris (Ashley), Grace Theriault (Caleb), Sarah Joy Harris; great-grandchildren Kayley Rae Hardy, Preston Glover, Ellis Driskell, Ada Glover, June Hardy, Arlee Driskell; sister Cynthia Webb (Tony); many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Jimmy’s family and friends will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home on the access road in Covington, GA from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Social Circle on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at 3:00 PM with burial to follow in the Covington City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions to honor Jimmy’s life will be accepted at First Baptist Church Social Circle for the Disaster Relief 11F Unit or the Building Fund.
