James Thomas Mote

James Thomas Mote, known to many as J.T., passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on May 1, 1945, in Jefferson, Georgia, J.T. spent his later years in Covington, Georgia, where he built a life rooted in hard work, deep faith, and unconditional love for his family and community.

J.T. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lucy Dale Mote. He is survived by his two daughters, Shannon Mote and Brooke Mote; his sisters, Mae Terry and Cathy Chambers; and his cherished nephew, Peyton Bowker, whom he loved as a grandson. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were blessed by his kindness and steady presence.

For over 40 years, J.T. worked as a Commercial Construction Superintendent with Winter Construction Company, where he was known for his dedication, leadership, and work ethic. He took pride in his ability to provide for his family and never hesitated to lend a helping hand to anyone in need-often offering quiet support and practical help to those around him.

J.T. was a man of deep faith and a devoted member of The Church at Stanton Springs in Social Circle, Georgia. His church family held a special place in his heart, and he gave his time and support generously.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the ALS Foundation or to The Church at Stanton Springs in memory of J.T., whose life was a testament to service, strength, and love.

A Funeral Service for Mr. Mote will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home Friday, two hours prior to his service, from 12 Noon - 2:00 P.M.
