Hazel Catherine Payne, of Covington, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at the age of 97. Mrs. Payne was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family and the children in her neighborhood. She had a loving heart, a gentle spirit, and brought warmth and kindness to everyone around her. Mrs. Payne enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley and had a special love for beautiful flowers, and redbirds which reflected her appreciation for life’s simple joys. She will be remembered for her caring nature, her generosity, and the love she shared with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Loy and Tenie Mae Skelton; daughter, Jacqueline Payne; son, Steve Minton; sisters, Winifred Greene, Mildred Mcpherson, Helen Skelton McGee, Shirley Rondos, Christine Darby; brothers, Douglas Skelton, Samuel Curry, Johnny Curry, J.C Curry.

Survivors include her son, Scott Payne (Amy); grandchildren, Olivia Katherine Payne (Geoff Anders); niece and nephew, Jenny Sawyer, Gene Duke, Douglas Skelton, Cathy Skelton Canton, Marc Mcpherson, Vic Mcpherson.

A Graveside Service for Mrs. Payne will be held Friday, May 15, 2026, 2:00 P.M., in Covington Mill Cemetery, 5113 Mill Street NE, in Covington.
