Eleanor Joye
Cushing
June 24, 1933 – April 16, 2026
Eleanor Joye Cushing, of Locust Grove, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the age of 92. Mrs. Cushing, lovingly known as “Mema,” leaves behind a legacy of warmth, devotion, and simple joys that brought her family together. She was best known in her kitchen, where her pork chops, butterbeans, and cornbread were made with love and never failed to fill both hearts and stomachs.
Mema enjoyed spending time outdoors doing light yardwork, finding peace in tending to her surroundings. In her quieter moments, she could often be found playing solitaire or keeping up with loved ones on Facebook, always staying connected to the people who meant the most to her.
Above all, she was deeply loved and adored by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader—always encouraging, always proud, and always present. Her love and support will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Cushing; grandson, Matthew Cushing; and great-granddaughter, Liza June
Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Wright (Phillip); sons, Greg Cushing (Gwen), Gary Cushing (Susan), Tim Cushing (Joy), John Cushing (Dawn); 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and two additional great-grandchildren due soon.
