Deborah Hogan Voogd

d. June 2, 2023

Covington

Deborah Hogan Voogd, of Covington, Georgia passed away Friday June 2, 2023, at the age of 75. Born January, 13th 1948 in Avon, MA, Mrs. Voogd had been a resident of Covington for 15 years following her retirement from a long career caring for others as a Registered Nurse. Prior to moving to Georgia to be near her grandsons, she was a 37 year resident of Lebanon, Connecticut. Debbie graduated from Pulaski High School in New Britain, Connecticut and the New Britain General Hospital School of Nursing. She first worked as an industrial nurse for General Electric in Plainville CT before becoming a “float” nurse at Backus Hospital in Norwich, CT, tending to patients in the ER, ICU, maternity ward and pediatrics. After many years of working the overnight 11-7 shift so that she could be home to raise her children during the day, she transitioned to administration in nursing homes, first as a Director of Infectious Disease then as an Assistant Director of Nursing. But her favorite place of employment was at Montville Visiting Nurses Association where she was the nursing supervisor but was still able to do 1 on 1 home visits on the weekends, which she loved the most.

She was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church and volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul that loved traveling, reading historical novels, knitting, crocheting and especially baking with her grandsons.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 52+ years Alexander Voogd, her siblings, Monsignor Rev. Dr. Lawrence Hogan of Vienna Austria, Joyce Hogan Rozman (Tom) of Raleigh North Carolina and Valerie Hogan Peters (John) of Georgetown, Massachusetts, her children, Scott Anthonie Voogd (Darcy) of Norwalk, IA, Eric Alexander Voogd (Stacey) of Atlanta, and Amanda Anne Voogd of Covington, her 6 grandchildren, Trevor Adam, Angelus, Evan, Aiden and Zoe, and her dear friend Phyllis Garrison of Covington.

Her wishes were to not have a memorial service but the family may hold a gathering for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to St. Vincent de Paul of Georgia.

This obituary was prepared with love and affection by Mrs. Voogd's family.
