David Frank "Kicker" McCrackin, a beloved husband, esteemed veteran, and dedicated craftsman, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, in Covington, Georgia. Born on March 3, 1949, in Douglas, Georgia, David lived a life marked by service, passion, and an unwavering love for his family and country.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Geri McCrackin; his sister, June Knight; and his beloved fur babies, Lem and Gus.
David is survived by his loving wife, Judy McCrackin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jean (Donald) Day; fur baby, Blu; precious nieces, Traci Knight-Ramey (Edgar), Dee Petty, and Madison Petty; and several other nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever hold his memory close.
David honorably served in the United States Army for six years, during which he completed a tour in Vietnam as a Sargent. His bravery and commitment to duty were recognized when he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor while serving with the 88th SUP & SVC BN in Pleiku Vietnam in 1969. This experience shaped not only his character but also his profound respect for the sacrifices made by others in service of the nation.
A talented welder, David dedicated 31 years to his work as a member of the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 72. His craftsmanship and professionalism remained unmatched, earning him the respect of colleagues throughout his career. His mantra was “ I can weld anything but the crack of dawn or a broken heart.” When he wasn't hard at work, David found joy in riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, embracing the freedom of the open road. He was a Corvette and Cadillac owner and devotee. He possessed a deep appreciation for country music, a genre that resonated with his heart, and cherished time spent watching classic western movies like Tombstone and Lonesome Dove. Robert Duvall was his most-prized actor. Through the years, David actually appeared in the James Garner movie, “Tank,” and in an episode of the locally filmed “In the Heat of the Night.”
David was a passionate fan of Georgia Bulldogs Football and a devoted supporter of NASCAR, predominately the late Dale Earnhardt, #3. His zest for life extended into supportive political views, where he stood firmly alongside President Trump. He enjoyed reading true crime novels and had the joy of driving a Western Star truck all over the USA and Canada alongside his beloved wife, Judy Lou, and their fur baby, Lem. David had a heartfelt love for all animals. He could recognize any birdcall and viewed his pets as family members. He and Judy raised their boys--bulldog Lem, labrador Gus, bulldog Blu, and two black cats called “Scoot.”
