Danny Harris Standard, born March 9, 1948, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Oxford, Georgia, on August 18, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, pastor, veteran, and faithful servant of God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Charlie Standard, and his first wife, Eve Standard.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Sarah Haynes Standard; his son, Issac Standard, and his fiancée, Tiffany Fuller; his daughter, Sarah Bennett, and her husband, Jeremiah Bennett; his grandchildren, Sawyer Nevin Standard and Caleb Everett Bennett; his step children Amy Woodruff and Gavin Woodruff, and his wife, Fuyu.

Danny proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. During his service, he and Eve lived in New York, a place that remained close to his heart throughout his life. He developed a lasting love for New York City and carried many fond memories of his time there.

Professionally, Danny worked as an accountant while also faithfully serving as a full-time pastor. Throughout his ministry, he served congregations at Gaither’s United Methodist Church, Sewells United Methodist Church, and the Forsyth Circuit Methodist Churches. His faith was at the center of his life, and he approached his ministry with dedication, humility, and a genuine desire to care for others.

Danny was known as a hard worker, responsible and reliable, and a man whose word could be trusted. He deeply loved his family and found great joy in the simple things of life.

A master gardener, Danny had a particular gift for growing beautiful tomato plants. In later years, it was not unusual to find him walking through his yard gathering gallons and gallons of pecans, often with his cat, Lulu, faithfully following along behind him.

Danny also had a lifelong love for animals, especially dogs. From childhood through his adult life, dogs were almost always part of his family, and he loved and cared for many of them over the years.

He loved a good baseball cap, too, and accumulated quite an assortment over the years, rarely missing an opportunity to wear one.

For more than 20 years, St. George Island, Florida, along the Gulf Coast, had been one of Danny’s favorite places. It was a treasured vacation destination where many family memories were made.

Danny faced Alzheimer’s disease during the final six years of his life. As the disease progressed, many memories became harder to reach, but there were still moments when pieces of his life

came vividly back to him. Throughout it all, one thing remained constant: Danny’s faith. Even as other memories faded, he remembered Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gaither’s Church.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Gaither’s Church, 1375 Newton Factory Bridge Road, Covington, Georgia 30014.

Family and friends are invited to gather together to remember Danny, celebrate his life, and give thanks for the faith, love, laughter, and service he shared with so many.
