Clifford Vibert Lyte
Affectionately known as “Fluffy”
August 10, 1938 – January 29, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished family patriarch, Mr. Clifford Vibert Lyte, affectionately known as Fluffy, who peacefully departed this life on Thursday, January 29, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, at the age of 87.
Mr. Lyte was born in New Amsterdam, Berbice, and later lived and worked in Georgetown, Guyana, for many years, where he proudly served as a Captain with the Transport and Harbour Department. He later migrated to Brooklyn, New York, where he established the next chapter of his life, before ultimately relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, which he called home in his later years. After moving to the United States, he continued his professional career as a Maintenance Supervisor at Mount Sinai Hospital.
He was a man who embraced life fully and will be fondly remembered for his love of traveling, discovering new places, music, classic western films, and never missing a good boxing match. Known for his fun-loving spirit, he enjoyed a good celebration, appreciated good music, and cherished being surrounded by family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopold Lyte and Millicent Lyte; his brothers, Hilbert Lyte, Sydney Lyte, and Clinton Lyte; his sisters, Viva Howell, Winnifred Roman, and Ena Lyte-Johnson; his first wife, Muriel Barnes-Lyte; and his second wife, Wilhelmi Ames-Lyte.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory his children: Hubert Lyte (Leslyn), Audrey Lyte-Kouassi, Shelly Lyte, and Shawn Lyte; and his stepson, Ronald Ames.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Travis, Anthony, Kurwayne, Kelwayne, Derwain, Trevlon, Clifford, Shawn, Gevon, Stephen, Natoya, Laurel, Dacia, Denille, and Ayana.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Jalan, Jovani, Mark Anthony, Jacob, Kobi, Carter, Mackenzie, Kason, Zoey, Jackson, Kiyan, Alice, Kurwayne, Daniel, Dominic, Daniya, Malik, Malakai, Klani, Anthony, Ryan, and Sarai.
He is further survived by his sister, Eunice Lyte; his goddaughter, Berna; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
A Funeral Service honoring the life of Mr. Clifford Vibert Lyte will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 1:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Georgia. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, prior to the service.
The Repass will be held at 4:30 PM at 3281 Salem Road, Covington, GA 30016.
