Benny
Byrd, Jr.

Eastminster Presbyterian Church
11:00 am - 12:00 pm (Eastern time)
Benny Byrd, Jr., a man of quiet strength, steadfast devotion, and a generous spirit, passed peacefully from this life on May 27, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on December 26, 1935, in Cairo, Georgia, Benny entered the world as a Christmas gift to his beloved parents, James Benjamin Byrd, Sr. and Maggie May Byrd. The youngest child in his family, Benny grew up surrounded by the warmth of two older sisters — Lois Collins and Daisy Elma Sanders — both of whom preceded him in death. Though they have gone before him, the memories they built together remained a cherished part of who he was.
A man of honor and duty, Benny proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard, a chapter of his life that shaped his character and instilled a lifelong sense of discipline and purpose. Following his service, he pursued his education with the same determination, earning his degree from the University of Georgia — a Bulldog through and through.
Benny’s professional life was a testament to his integrity and dedication. He devoted 25 remarkable years to Jim Alexander Underwriters, where he built a reputation for excellence and trustworthiness. His career reached its pinnacle when he rose to the distinguished position of Vice President at International Indemnity Company — a title earned not merely through ambition, but through decades of hard work, loyalty, and a genuine commitment to those he served.
Above all else, Benny was a devoted husband. For nearly 62 years, he walked hand in hand with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Mary Ann Byrd. Theirs was a love story that endured the tests of time — built on trust, laughter, faithfulness, and an unshakeable partnership. Mary Ann was his greatest joy, his closest companion, and his home. Together, they built a life full of meaning, and the imprint of their love will live on in all who knew them.
In recent years, Benny and Mary Ann found a spiritual home at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where they have been faithful and beloved members for four years. Family was the heartbeat of Benny’s life, and his love extended warmly to his many nieces and nephews, whom he cherished deeply. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, integrity, and love that will endure in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
