Barbara Jones passed away on August 16, 2026. She was born July 16, 1933 in Clanton, Alabama to Herbert and Lessie Lowery. She is Preceded by her husband, A R Jones, whom she was married for 70 years. Her sister Vivian Hayes, brothers Douglas Lowery, Jack Lowery and her parents.
She is survived by her sons, Rick Jones, Ken Jones (Joni); daughters, Joanne Hooper (Lawson) and Nancy Peters (Sammy); grandchildren, Erin Jones, Chris Malcom (Jane), Suzanne Cauthorn (Will), Will Hooper (Anna); three step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was a stay-at-home mom until all of her children were grown and then worked as a teacher's assistant at J H House elementary in Conyers, Georgia for 14 years.
She was an active member at Rockdale Baptist Church since 1974, where she taught preschoolers in Sunday School, mission friends and training union. She was a member of the sanctuary choir for several years and Joyful Senior Saints and ensemble. She was a member of the Women on Mission and Happy Hearts, as well as the Upper Room Ministry. She worked with the special needs adults Sunday school class for 24 years. She also helped with delivery for Meals on Wheels.
She volunteered at Traditions Nursing Home in Lithonia for 19 years, helping the residents play bingo and doing manicures. She did mend and sewing for the residents and made fried apple pies occasionally.
A service to honor the life of Mrs. Barbara Ann Jones will be held Friday, August 21, 2026 at 11:00 A.M. at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home (1215 Access Road, Covington). Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home one hour prior to the service from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.
