Salvatore L. Garland,

Salvatore L. Garland, Jr., of Madison passed away November 7, 2016, at 56 years of age. A 1978 graduate of Newton County High School, Mr. Garland proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years. He retired from the automobile industry as a Finance Manager after more than 20 years. Mr. Salvatore was a long-time parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church. In addition to being a fan of the Braves and Elvis, he enjoyed hunting. Preceding him in death were his parents, Salvatore Louis, Sr., and Jacqueline (Vallett) Garland; and brother, Michael Garland.

Mr. Garland is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Ashley Garland; grandchildren, Cameron Garland, Triston Garland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Craig Baxter, Becky and Jeff Hinson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Leah Garland, John and Mary Garland; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass for Mr. Garland will be held Thursday, November 10, 2016, 12:00 Noon, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 11524 Highway 278, Covington, with Rev. Fr. Roberto A. Orellana officiating. Interment will follow in New Covington Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Wednesday, November 9, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Garland may be made to American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
