Gladys Armistead Obituary
Gladys Samples Armistead of Conyers, went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2017 at 83 years of age. Mrs. Armistead spent most of her life caring for the family and home, and in later years was caregiver to family members in need. However, she had an earlier career in business and insurance, and was one of the first women in the state of Georgia to have her insurance license at a time when that was a very rare achievement. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church since returning to the area in the mid-1990's, and was very involved in service to others and supporting the church's mission activities. Mrs. Armistead was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Franklin Armistead; son, Marvin Wayne Armistead; mother, Ila Mae Williams; father and stepmother, Frank and Bessie Samples; and sister and brother-in-law, Velma and Dick Smith.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Carey Armistead of Harrisburg, NC; grandchildren, Zak Armistead of Charlotte, NC, Will Armistead of Harrisburg, NC, Katie and Grant Robillard; great-granddaughter, Esther Robillard, all of Omaha, NE; sister and brother-in-law, Marinell and Emory Thompson of Rutledge, GA; brothers, Joseph B. Samples of Buchanan, GA, and Joe Williams, Jr., of Social Circle, GA; several nieces and nephews; as well as a large extended family.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Armistead will be held Saturday, October 21, 2017, 2:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Rick Stucke officiating. Interment will follow in Social Circle City Cemetery, Social Circle. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home one hour prior to her service, from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Gethsemane Baptist Church Mission Fund or the American Cancer Society.
