Andrew Strauss Obituary

Andrew "Andy" Strauss, 42, departed this life on July 11, 2019.

Andy, as most knew him, was born in Atlanta, Georgia, September 17, 1976, to John and Jenny Strauss. He spent his early childhood years in Covington, Georgia and later moved with his family to St. Simons Island, Georgia. He graduated from Glynn Academy High School in 1995. He spent time at The University of Georgia, but was more interested in learning on his own than in a classroom.

Andy was an artist and an entrepreneur from the beginning. He began an internet business with his best friend, Frank, when web pages were just beginning to be essential for business. He worked at Enterprise Rental Cars, where he quickly became manager, which led to a career in a field encompassing two things Andy dearly loved: films and cars. Andy enjoyed his work as a picture car coordinator, and coworkers valued him as consistently hardworking, kind, and positive, which made him stand out in the industry.

In his little spare time, Andy watched movies and TV shows, traveled, and tinkered with the sports cars he owned. He taught himself almost entirely on his own to play classical piano, and became a virtuoso in a short time. Andy believed in the spirit of generosity. He gave to causes ranging from family and friends' endeavors, microlending in third world countries, The Chopin Society in Atlanta, water wells in Africa and to the Ogala Lakota in South Dakota. Andy was nonchalant in his giving, but often gave over 50% tips and his wallet's contents to the homeless.

No matter what Andy did, through his loving relationships with his close family and friends, to his work or hobbies, he always committed his entire self to what he was doing. He could be eccentric and passionate, which endeared him to friends and family. He continually supported and encouraged others and sought to live a life fully committed to what matters most. Andy was a man of great faith and possessed a bit of ‘other-worldly' about him. He hopefully now has the answers to all of his questions.

Andy is survived by his brother, John Strauss and sister-in-law Teresa Strauss, brother Matthew Strauss and sister-in-law Emese Szuts, his sister Karla Strauss, and many relatives and dear friends.

A memorial service was held on July 21, 2019 at the Burnt Pine Plantation, Newborn, Georgia and an interment service was held at Wesley Memorial Gardens on August 10, 2019, St. Simons Island, Georgia.
Memorials can be made to One Spirit, a Native American service organization, P.O. Box 3209, Rapid City, SD 57709. http://www.nativeprogress.org/en/one-spirit
