Walter "Walt" Hegwood

Walter "Walt" Hegwood, age 81, of Covington, passed away February 15, 2018. Mr. Hegwood was a faithful and active member of Newton Baptist Church. In addition to singing in the choir with his wife, Patricia, he always attended Men's Prayer Breakfast. He enjoyed playing the guitar with his pickin' buddies and would meet up with them for a meal and fellowship at Bojangles' or Mamie's Kitchen. When not spending time with family or friends, he could be found tending to his vegetable garden. Mr. Hegwood, affectionately known to his grandchildren as "Big Pop", will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jordy Hegwood; sisters, Edna Dorsey, Mildred Studdard; parents, Edd and Jessie Hegwood.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 56 years, Patricia L. Hegwood; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Annette Hegwood of Covington, Jeff and Cindy Hegwood of Shady Dale, Gary and Tamie Hegwood, Kelly Hegwood, all of Covington; grandchildren, Jake Hegwood, Crystal Mattison, Dalton Hegwood, Devyn Hegwood, Emily Hegwood, Jessie Hegwood, Kimberly Hegwood, Caleigh Hegwood, Taylor Fincher; great-grandchildren, Sydney Hegwood, Jackson Hegwood, Bailee Hegwood, Rilee Hegwood, Charlee Hegwood, Henlee Hegwood, Greyson Marks; brothers, Bennie Hegwood of Social Circle, Doug Hegwood of Conyers;
as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Hegwood will be held Monday, February 19, 2018, 2 PM, at Newton Baptist Church, 720 Jack Neely Road, in Covington, with Pastor Jeff Hegwood and Pastor Tony Howeth officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, in Covington. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Sunday, February 18th, from 3:00 PM - 6:00 P.M. Mr. Hegwood will lie in state, prior to his service, from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or, donations may be made in Mr. Hegwood's memory to the Newton Baptist Church Building Fund.
